1,000,000 Tags with Wise SCADA: Redefining the Limits

It’s time to rethink what “large-scale” means in SCADA.

In this project, we built and tested a 1,000,000-tag SCADA system using Wise SCADA, evaluating its performance under real conditions. You can watch the entire process and results in our video.

And we didn’t do this on a high-end system — we ran everything on a 7-year-old laptop.

Massive Scale, Realistic Scenario

Our test setup:

• 10,000 devices
• 100 tags per device
• A total of 1,000,000 active tags

We created a fully dynamic environment where all tag values change every second. For this, we used the Fulmatic SOFT simulator.

Under the load of 10,000 clients, the simulator handled updates in approximately 2 seconds.
It’s important to highlight: this limitation comes from the simulation layer — not from the SCADA system.

Performance: Beyond Expectations

Even at this scale, Wise SCADA remained smooth, stable, and responsive.

Key observations:

• Design-time performance: Fully smooth, no noticeable delays
• Project save time: ~32 seconds
• Standard screen transitions: 1–3 seconds
• The slowest page: The page containing the Tag Monitor object, with expected slow opening, fast updates, and low CPU usage.
• CPU usage: ~30% – phenomenal performance for a standard (7-year-old) laptop.

It’s worth emphasizing:
The Tag Monitor is an engineering tool designed to display all tags in a single view. Maintaining system stability even under this extreme load clearly demonstrates the strength of the underlying architecture.

Conclusion: Not Just Running — Proving Its Power

In traditional SCADA systems, even 100,000 tags can be a serious challenge on such hardware. 100,000 tags would require large servers.

With Wise SCADA:
